Black Horses Ltd in Cartmel

Welcome to Black Horses Ltd, a family business dedicated to Friesian horses. Based in the Lake District, we provide our Friesians for a range of different activities up and down the country. We pride ourselves on delivering the finest of service with magnificent carriages for weddings and special occasions in the North West of England and Cumbria. We can also provide horse drawn carriage rides round Cartmel village in the southern lake district.

We are passionate about the breed and are committed to our Frieisian breeding programme using only top class mare lines and approved Friesian stallions.  Our foundation mare, Femma L is the only MODEL mare in the UK and the first to achieve the title in this country. So far she has produced four beautiful daughters from different bloodlines and they will join our breeding program in due course. Femma, along with her half sister are being inseminated this year (2012) with two of Hollands leading Friesian stallions. In 2011 one of our mares, Anja was awarded STER and went on to win OVERALL BREED CHAMPION. Our stallion, Wouter who we own in partnership with Leo Postma was also awarded STER and CHAMPION STALLION. WEDDINGS - Black Horses horse drawn carriages are the perfect way to arrive at your wedding – with our magnificent horses in front of your decorated carriage and your footmen in traditional livery attire, we are there to attend to your every need on your special day.

COUNTRY CARRIAGE RIDES - Our horses and carriages are also available for romantic drives in the Cartmel countryside. You could celebrate with a bottle of wine or champagne or take a luxury picnic hamper from Cartmel Village Shop.

FRIESIAN EXPERIENCE DAYS - We are now offering you the unique Frieisan Experience where experienced riders can ride with us on our magnificent horses on the fells and around Cartmel or try their hand at driving. For those with less riding experience we are happy to 'tailor' a day to suit you if you would simply like to come and spend time with the horses and learn more about them.

	Our drivers have been trained by British Driving Society Qualified Instructors and as a very minimum hold the BDS Preliminary certificate and are qualified to drive horses on the public highways. Our business is approved by the Chairman of the BDS, Mr. John Parker.
