2011 Breed Champion, Anja, backed and in full training

Anja, our 4yo STER filly has now been backed and is enjoying learning about hacking out alone and in company. She has also started her schooling work with a view to her being ready to complete a Prelim test by the end of June. Anja is available for sale to the right home.

Two weeks running we feature in Horse & Hound

5th April H&H reported on Vela and Wouters successes at Newton Rigg with Vela winning her prelim class on 74% and Wouter winning his on 72%. On 12th April Wouter featured again with another photograph and lovely write up following his Young Horse class win. Although I should say we never intended to drive him and he will be sticking with the dressage!

Wouters wins the qualifier for SHEARWATER BD Young Dressage Horse Finals - 7th April 2012

After last years success in the 4yo class we decided to try our luck in the 5yo class at Richmond Equestrian Centre. Once again Wouter impressed the judges enough to win the qualifier and this year there is nothing stopping us getting to the finals at Hartpury in July.

Wouters wins again - 18th February 2012

We made another trip over to Richmond today to compete in the Prelim and Novice. Wouter was much more settled today and won the Prelim with a score of 70%, and gained 69.58% in Novice.

Wouter starts the season in style - February 2012

Wouter had not competed since last Summer due to my pregnancy but had been trained once a week by our trainer Melanie Turner. Conscious of the need to get some outings under his belt before we contested the Young Dressage Horse classes this year, we headed over to Richmond for an affiliated dressage competition. It was all very exciting for him being back in action and he was rather tense for the Prelim class and a lot more settled for the Novice. To my surprise he won the Prelim and was joint winner of the Novice, despite the fact I had made two mistakes in the Novice test! I love this horse more and more each day, he just keeps giving and is an absolute dream to ride.

Three new arrivals from Holland - February 2012

The wait is over and finally Wouters two sisters (Doutzen - 3yo & Berber - 4yo)arrived at our farm late in February along with another 4yo filly, Dibbrich, from Femma's bloodline. They will spend time aclimatising before being bought into work and trained for dressage and hacking.

New Addition to the Black Horses Family - October 2011

This time it is not of the four legged kind! On 28th October we welcomed into the world our son, Bailey who, at just 3 days old had his first sit in the carriage. It wont be long before he is sitting on one of our black beasties, the question is just which one will it be first!

New Facilities for 2012

After 5 years of planning and literally moving of mountains at our farm we now have a fabulous 60 x 20 arena possibly with one of the best views in the North of England. Alongside the arena we have a Monarch horsewalker which already has proved itself to be a invaluable piece of equipment. The horses have all settled into the routine of an early morning walk to stretch their legs and it acts as a great benefit to warm up and cool down muscles before and after a workout. We are now able to offer schooling sessions as part of our 'Experience days'.

New website launched in May 2011

Welcome to the new Black Horses website.

As well as revamping the website we have lots of news, as you will see on all the new pages!

You can now buy our carriage rides and experience in our online shop, but if you prefer to talk to us, please just pick up the phone.

FRIESIAN EXPERIENCE DAYS

The most exciting development has been launching the 'Friesian Experience' days, which give you the opportunity to get up close and personal to the horses and ride them out on the fells. You can also choose to have a go at carriage driving through the beautiful lush, green Cartmel countryside.

FRIESIAN FUN RIDE

We are going on a Friesian Fun ride on 22nd May.  I am hoping to have 5 horses on the ride and, so far, we have 3 other people bringing their Frieisans.  We’ll be riding up Hampsfell and then coming down through Longlands and into the village for a drink or ice cream before coming back to the farm for a BBQ, weather depending!

If you and your Friesian would like to join us, please get in touch - telephone: 07776145424 or email: tracey@blackhorses.co.uk
